My PhD research focusses on the decisions taken by Nazi genocide perpetrators, whereby I use Auschwitz as a case study. Auschwitz is iconic for the Holocaust and often described as a factory of death. In trying to understand Auschwitz, it is the task of the researcher to test conflicting interpretations and see through layers of myth, meaning and historical fact. My PhD-research proposes an economic methodology to systematically research the decisions taken in Auschwitz.
